The conditions in Victorian hospitals were very dirty and germs were everywhere! There was a poor supply of medicine and beds; this did not help in preventing further infections.
Florence Nightingale was known as the "Lady with the Lamp" because she used to carry a lantern around with her by the soldiers that she cared for day and night. When it was dark, she carried a lantern with her so that she could see better.
